ABOUT DISTRICT
Anantnag, located in the southern sector of the picturesque Jhelum Valley, is synonymous with natural majesty and historical richness. Known for its rejuvenating climate, lofty mountains, fragrant flowers, and the melodious flow of sweet-water springs, it is one of the most culturally and economically vital districts in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
Geographically, the district features thick alpine forests and towering peaks in its southern and eastern sectors. The region claims the largest number of streams in the valley, including the Sandran, Brengi, Arpath, and the mighty Lidder River, which originates from the Sheshnag Lake and irrigates the fertile soil of the district.
